Reasons to register a IE Code
No Return Filing: IE Code does not require the filing of any return. Once, an IE Code is issued there are no further procedures required to maintain validity of the IE Code. Even if the import or export transaction occur, there are no filing required to DGFT.
Proprietors can have IE Code: Even individuals who are proprietors of a business can obtain IE code in their name. it is not necessary to incorporate a business entity for obtaining IE Code.
Exporters Require IE Code: All exporters who export goods or services from India require an IE Code. The IE Code must be quoted while sending shipments. And banks requires the exporters IE Code while receiving money from abroad.
Lifetime No Renewal: IE Code is issued for the lifetime of the entity and requires no renewal. So once a IE Code is obtained, it can be used by that entity for all its import or export transactions without any further transactions.
Identity and business proof: Identity proof like passport, drivers license, aadhar card, voters id or ration card for the promoters for photo or person authorized to file IE Application. In case of legal entity or registered body, then Partnership deed or incorporation certificate or registration certificate is required.
Cancelled Cheque Copy: Bank Certificate as per DGFT Format or cancelled cheque bearing preprinted name of applicant, and account number. Bank certificate or cancelled cheque is used to verify that the applicant has an active current account with a bank in India.

If you are thinking about starting import export business within India, you need to apply for a new IEC Registration certificate. The Import Export Code is a 10 digit number that you would need to carry out your business. The Government of India has set down certain processes and regulations that applicants need to follow. So let us have an idea of documents that is required at the time of IE Code Registration.
And here are the following list of documents that is required:-
-Current bank account details
-Self attested copy of the Permanent Account Number ( PAN) card
-Banker’s certificate
-Two copies of the passport size photograph of the applicant, that is duly attested by the banker of the applicant.
-Covering letter on the letterhead of the applicant’s company to request for the issue of new IEC Code Number.
All these documents along with two copies of the Application form need to be submitted with an application fee of ₹ 250. If you wish to apply online ten you need to upload the scanned copies of all these documents and make an electronic payment for the Application fee to the DGFT.
In case of offline application, you need to create a demand draft of ₹ 250/- that is payable to the regional office of DGFT. The certificate and receipt of the demand draft along with the copies of all the prescribed documents need o be submitted in person to the nearest DGFT office.
You also need to attach a self- addressed envelope along with ₹ 25/- postal stamp for delivery of the IEC certificate through registered post or challan/DD of ₹ 100/- for speed post. The physical application should reach the DGFT Office within 15 days of the online application of the form.
